Bad Painting

Since 2013, Jay Rechsteiner has been making Bad Painting, an ongoing series based on real events.

The work begins with an encounter that provokes shock, anger or disbelief. This is followed by research, drawing and painting. The source material is reduced, distorted and reworked until it becomes something else through the act of painting.

Bad Painting does not aim to illustrate a political position or explain the events it depicts. It is a way of processing them through painting.
