Meaning emerges. I am interested in how.
An image, a word, a gesture or an object possess no fixed meaning on their own. Meaning emerges through relationships and context. I am interested in the moment when those relationships begin to produce meaning, shift it or disappear. This lies at the centre of my artistic practice.
Since the 1990s, I have worked with painting, drawing, text, installation, performance, video and sound. The medium is never the starting point of a work. It follows the idea or discovers itself through the process of making. Some works begin with a clearly defined concept, while others evolve through observation, experimentation and the act of making itself. What they share is an interest in how images, language, materials, people and situations generate meaning.
I see art as a form of thinking. Rather than illustrating answers I already have, it allows me to ask questions, discover relationships and explore how meaning is constructed. Meaning resides neither solely in the artwork nor in the viewer. It emerges through the interaction between the work, its context and experience.
Rather than communicating a single message, I hope my work invites viewers to discover relationships of their own. Meaning is not something we simply find. It is something we make.
