The Washroom Projects
The Washroom Projects are going to transform the two staircases leading both to the gallery section of Hackney Empire into arts and performance installation.
One staircase is going to be transformed into a three dimensional mind map consisting of mind maps, slide shows, diverse collected materials, drawings etc. etc. This installation will be set up as a collaborative piece of work. On the 23rd of July performers will perform within this staircase. The other staircase will be used as a gallery space where the participating visual artists can exhibit their work. On the top floor within the gallery bar Jacqueline Mathys will install a room installation. On the 24th of July we will open the staircase for the public once again. However, there won't be any performances. Visitors can come and view the work without the "disturbance" of the peformances.
The staircases opens on the 23 at exactly 4 pm and close at around 7, 7:30. There will be a £2 minimum donation for visitors.
The interesting aspect of this event is the fact that The Washroom Projects operate between the facade and the stage/auditorium, in a place which is inside of the inside.
additional info:
Transformation of the mind map staircase
The transformation of this staircase is going to happen on the 21st of July, two days before the actual event. All visual and some of the performing artists will take part in this workshop led collaborative work. The transformation is based on individual work and interaction with each other.
Transformation
of the gallery staircase
Jacqueline Mathys and Ralph Dorey are working out an installation with all the works of the participating visual artists.
Coordination performance
Eirini Kartsaki is responsible for the general direction of the performances which will take place all over the place (gallery staircase, mind map staircase, top floor).
Jay Rechsteiner is responsible for the general direction and strategy of TWP.
TWP holds regular meetings at their HQ (Filthy MacNasty's, 68 Amwell Street, London EC1 1UU) in order to work out strategies and find ways to create a successful event. All participating artists are expected to take part. All the meetings are an important part of TWP. The event on the 23rd and 24th is the mere end result of the project held at Hackney Empire.
