blur
Blur builds on the foundation of Bad Painting but shifts the focus from explicit depictions to a more subtle, fragmented approach. This project examines how societies selectively remember or overlook aspects of history and human behaviour. In Blur, the text is presented in isolation from the visual elements, appearing as clear, white-on-black statements on standard poster paper. These texts, directly drawn from Bad Paintings, are then paired with blurred visuals, indistinct video, and ambient sounds, creating a layered and immersive experience.
The separation between text and imagery in Blur invites viewers to engage with each part independently, encouraging them to interpret connections within the fragmented narratives. While the texts are clear and direct, the blurred visuals and sounds provide only suggestions of context, mirroring
how memory and perception often obscure the full reality of events over time.
Blur offers an exploration of selective memory and the ways certain events fade or distort in the collective consciousness. By placing viewers in an environment where clarity and ambiguity coexist, Blur becomes a space for introspection on what we choose to remember, what we ignore, and how these choices shape our understanding of history and humanity.
Key themes:
- Memory and Forgetting: Examines the natural cycle of remembering and forgetting, questioning what society chooses to retain or obscure.
- Fragmented Perception: Text, visuals, and sounds are presented as separate elements, challenging viewers to form their own connections.
- Ambiguity and Interpretation: The lack of clear visual context allows each viewer to interpret the text and imagery in a personal way, reflecting the subjective nature of memory and perception.
